From the outset it was evident that the Anglesea was going to provide a tough match for our A Grade netball team.

Both teams came out aiming to start the season with a win and the intensity carried through from the beginning to the end of the match.

The first quarter was essentially goal for goal with Ellie O’Kane creating great drive through the centre of the court to ensure swift movement of the ball.

Going into the second quarter Anglesea held a one goal lead.

However, outstanding defensive pressure from Brooke Connolly saw numerous intercepts and turnovers , enabling the Anglesea to stretch their advantage.

Despite the best efforts of Amateur centre Nicole Robertson in both the defensive and attacking ends, Anglesea continued to power down the court and finished the half with a seven goal lead.

An exciting third quarter saw the teams neck and neck, scoring 10 goals each. Geelong Amateur defender Breanna Kerr’s move into wing defence for this quarter was a huge part of this turn around for the Ammos.

Defensive pressure was in full force from both teams creating a sense of urgency across the court without compromising the great skills that were being displayed.

The anticipation was high heading into the final quarter with several changes made to both line ups.

Anglesea’s Ellen Cook’s move from defence to wing attack provided her team with necessary court-wide defensive pressure and stopped the flow of the Ammos play.

The quarter proved to be nearly as close as the third and, in the end, the Ammos were worn down from their strong position early eventually went down by nine goals.
